New Albany’s Safety Town was established in 2004. The program is a joint effort between the New Albany Police Department, Plain Township Fire Department, and the Plain Local School District.  Sponsors, including individuals, community organizations, and corporations, were instrumental in its creation and continued success.

The two-week Safety Town classes focus on safety topics including stranger danger, fire safety and escaping a house during a fire, water safety, school bus safety, animal safety, and poison prevention.  In the first two years over 450 children attended and the feedback received from parents and children who graduated from the program has been excellent.

Building on that success, an initiative to build a permanent site for New Albany’s Safety Town started in the fall of 2005.  The permanent Safety Town site will be located across from the New Albany K-1 Elementary School. Police Chief Mark Chaney," We believe the planned permanent Safety Town and Adventure Playground will provide Safety Town students and the community at large with a unique year-round playground that is both fun and educational and is unrivaled in the central Ohio area."  For more information please visit http://www.newalbanysafetytown.org
